TLUD Gasifier - Heat Exchanger fuelled with Papyrus Reed

Initial Startup
The Pasteurization System in Operation
The two views on the right give these observations
  • The pipe linkages with the water pump cooled by a fan (under the metal sheeting)
  • The 500lt outer pan (the inner pan not shown)
  • The smokeless operation of the gasifier. Note the small green sheet metal sleeve connecting the heat exchanger to the gasifier
  • The entrance of the dual 6m ht pipe (inner dia 125mm) heat exchanger
  • The simple bracing of the heat exchanger to its frame
  • The gasifier delivered over 25kw with an efficiency >25%. Burn period was about 30min hence two gasifiers are required to pasteurize 500lts of milk
  • The 30min burn period consumed ~12.5kg of papyrus reed (packing ratio 0.85kg papyrus/lt)

The layout demonstrates the simplicity of the system, making it suitable for many kinds of applications.

The 150 lt Gasifier

The gasifier has these characteristics:

  • Outer drum (old oil drum of 200lts) which support the primary air intake and the grate with its housing
  • The inner drum which is the fuel chamber (about 150lts) which 25mm spacers
  • The concentrator lid, having a 125mm dia hole
